IMD forecast weather for 1st week of May

NEW DELHI, May 1: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has released its weather forecast for the first week of May 2024, highlighting various weather systems and warnings across different regions of India.
Heat Wave and Severe Heat Wave Conditions:
Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are expected to persist over East India until May 2nd, and over south Peninsular India until May 3rd, gradually improving thereafter.
Maharashtra and Gujarat are likely to experience heat wave conditions over the next five days, while Central India may encounter heat wave conditions from May 3rd to May 5th.
Maximum temperatures ranging from 44-47°C are anticipated over Gangetic West Bengal, East Jharkhand, north Odisha, and Rayalaseema until May 3rd, with a subsequent decrease in intensity.
Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are forecasted in many places over Gangetic West Bengal, parts of Odisha, Bihar, and isolated pockets of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Jharkhand until May 2nd, reducing thereafter.
Rainfall Activity:
Northeast India is expected to witness heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds until May 2nd.
Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura may experience isolated heavy rainfall from May 1st to May 3rd, with very heavy rainfall expected over specific regions. Northwest India may experience scattered light to moderate rainfall/snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning from May 3rd to May 6th.
Other Weather Systems and Warnings:
A cyclonic circulation over northeast Bangladesh and a trough from Bihar to Nagaland are expected to bring widespread rainfall/snowfall over northeastern states, along with strong southwesterly winds.
A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from May 3rd, bringing scattered rainfall/snowfall and thunderstorms over the region. Additionally, the IMD has issued warnings for warm nights, hot and humid weather, and strong surface winds in various parts of the country, urging caution and preparedness. Residents and authorities are advised to stay updated with weather forecasts and take necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of extreme weather conditions.
