JAMMU, Sept 8: Greenhorn in politics and inexperienced Omar Abdullah took over as Chief Minister of sensitive Jammu and Kashmir on January 5, 2008. That day has been turned out to be an inauspicious day for the people of the state in particular and their fellow Indians in general. For, ever since his elevation to the office of Chief Minister, the state has been witnessing turmoil on an unprecedented scale, with the Kashmiri separatists ruling the roost and play all kinds of shots to dismember India and fan communalism and Chief Minister virtually giving them moral and political support, thus practically becoming part of the ongoing rabidly anti-India and patently communal movement.

SRINAGAR, Sept 8: Amid state-enforced curfew in the capital and the Hurriyat-sponsored shutdown in rest of the Kashmir valley, violent crowds today attacked offices of Srinagar Development Authority (SDA). With the protest demonstrations and clashes continuing on umpteenth day, authorities arrested around 30 persons and also picked up separatist hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani for temporary detention.

JAMMU, Sept 8: A woman, whose bloodstained body was recovered from Thakra Kote forests of Ganjot in Reasi, remains unidentified even after nearly 10 months of the incident.
She had blood stains on her nose, and her left eye and lips were swollen.
It seemed as if she was murdered and her body was thrown in the forests to avoid detection of the crime, police sources said.
The body was first spotted lying in the forests by some passersby who had then informed Reasi police station under whose jurisdiction the area fell. Sources said on the day of the recovery of the body, her one leg had been eaten by some wild animals.

JAMMU, Sept 8: A Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Tuesday night shot dead his accomplice in Dharimandal forests of Gandoh in Doda over the latter's illicit relations with his wife.
SSP, Doda, Prabhat Singh said gun shots were heard in Dharimandal forests late last night.
Soon thereafter, cops were rushed to the area to find out the cause of firing, he added.
The SSP said while making searches in the Dharimandal woods, cops came across the bullet-ridden body of a militant. One AK rifle along with 30 rounds and three loaded magazines, besides a pouch, were also found lying close to the body, he added.

The mishap took place at about 12.45 pm when the minibus (JK02RM/0566) was on its way from Parade to Gangyal.
The reason of accident was brake failure, police said.

Jammu, Sept 8: Though diarrhoea cases have been reported in the Jammu region, the numbers of cases of waterborne diseases like malaria and typhoid have started increasing dramatically during the rainy season.
With the onset of the monsoon, the number of persons complaining of malaria and typhoid at the OPD of the Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu, alone is more than 50 on any odd day.
On the other hand, the number of diarrhoea patients visiting the GMCH is approximately 200 per day while at Shri Maharaja Ghulab Singh Hospital nearly 30-50 patients (children below five years) are reportedly visiting the OPD everyday.
