Anantnag, April 17, 2018: Himalayan Welfare Organization-Pahalgam on Monday awarded Early Times correspondent with Green Award-2018 in a function organized at South Kashmir’s famous tourist resort Pahalgam

Journalist Saahil Suhail was awarded for showing a serious commitment towards the environmental conservation and initiating a crusade against forest land encroachment and other anti-environment activities, said organizers.
Those others who were also awarded for their extraordinary role in their respective fields include, Divisional Forest Officer Lidder, Muzaffer Ahmad Katoo, Afroz Ahmad Baba Principal Higher Secondary School Pahalgam,Dr Simin Akther-Assistant Professor Delhi University, Peer Mudasir Qadri reporter News 18 Network and Mohd Khalil for carrying out various campaigns at community level.
Teachers of several government schools, local trade union leaders and others representing government and semi-government organizations were also given appreciation certificates for playing role in social development and preservation of environment in the area.
Chairman, Himalayan Welfare Organization, Pahalgam-Mushtaq Pahalgami, addressing the function said that they will continue to appreciate those who work for the environment and social development.
Chief Executive Officer Pahalgam Development Authority, Mushtaq Ahmad Simani who was chief guest, also addressed the function and highlighted the importance of preserving forests and water bodies.
“Because of the forests and water bodies like river lidder thousands of tourists from every corner of the world visit Kashmir therefore it is necessary for we people to preserve them,” he said
“In any circumstances we have to increase forest cover and for that planting tress needs to be encouraged at ground level,” he said and sought the support of locals in curbing polythene menace at Pahalgam.
