KPs demand handover of 13 temples from Dharmarth Trust | Pandits criticize Karan Singh | | Javaid Naikoo Early Times Report SRINAGAR, May 2: The Kashmiri Pandits have severely criticized former Sader-e-Riyasat, Dr Karan Singh for holding custody of 12 famous temples of Kashmir over Dharmarth Trust fetching revenue of crores of rupees. The Pandits demanded handover of all such temples as part of their ancestral property for the betterment of temples/shrines. They stressed need for Temple Bill to recover religious Property in ruins. Members of various other trusts functioning in Jammu and Kashmir headed by Kashmiri Pandits today said that Dharmarth Trust consisting 12 famous temples of Kashmir headed by Karan Singh in not justified as right of care taking of Temples and Shrines of Kashmir is the sole responsibility of KPs only. They alleged that income generated from all 12 famous temples goes in the kitty of unknown personsinstead of being spent on the renovation of temples and other religious places across the state. Dr Arjan Nath, Chairman, Premnath Bhat Memorial Trust while talking to Early Times said that ' people like Karan Singh do not want Temple/shrines Bill to be passed because if it happens, he will lose his main source of income. Secretary of Durga-Nag Trust, Dr Nakhasi said that "Since my childhood I am seeing Dharmarth Trust everywhere and whatever money is generated on festivals like Kheer-Bawani Mela actually goesin the pockets of the office bearers of the Trust. It should be handed over to Kashmiri Pandits and there must a proper kind of board to take care and utilize money generated from other temples and Shrines.' "Be it is Kheer-Bawani,Tulmula, Shankara-Achraya,Hari Parbat or Khrew Temple which come under Dharmarth Trust of Karan Singh or any other temple there must be a Shrine Board type trust open to all or Association of KPs to look after temples and Shrines so that money generated could be properly utilized for the development of religious places," said Kuldeep Raina another member of one trust. Kashmiri Pandits allege that they are receiving reports that Dharmarth Trust is also responsible for selling land of temples to land Mafia and despite grabbing huge chunk of money generated on festivals across the state, many temples are in dilapidated condition even today. General manger of Dharmarth Trust, R.L Bhan said that concept of Temple/Shrines Bill of KPs is of no use as it is not needed in present times when anybody can take care of Temples and Shrines him/herself in Kashmir and added that Dharmarth Trust spends all revenue generated from cash and kind on renovation and functioning of temples across the state and there is no misuses of money. Pertinently despite resistance from KPs time and again, Karan Singh continues to hold charge of famous 12 temples which are in good condition and Kashmiri pandits are demanding that a bill should be passed in the state legislature regarding the security, renovation and development of temples and other religious places of Kashmiri pundits across the state. |
