Agricultural land conversion to non-agricultural usage goes unabated | | | Kathua, July 20 : A chunk of agricultural land is being converted into non-agricultural purpose in Kathua town with the involvement of revenue official but all is deliberately being ignored by the district authorities. Stone crushers can be seen established on the agricultural land everywhere in the town. Member Panchayat, Master Shankara alleges that entire administration is involved for the installation of illegal stone crushers. He said there is a high level nexus between the owners of stone crushers and revenue officials. He said some Punjab based businessmen have established their roots in the territory of J&K and they are not plundering only the state wealth but also causing the threat to the health of the village life. Citing example of his own family, he said most of the family members are suffering from dust related issues like Asthma, bronchitis and other problems and despite number of complaints against the owners of these stone crushers, government has never bothered to initiate any action against them. While responding over the issue to ET the Regional Director Pollution Control Board Sajjad Hussan Mufti said that no stone crusher is established on the agriculture land and in nearby residential area. |
