Rath Khardha Mela commences at Ghagwal | | | Early Times Report
Samba, Dec 28: The two day long Rath Kardha Mela (taking out of chariot) commenced at Narsingh Dass temple Ghagwal in Samba district today. Thousands of people drawn from neighbouring Punjab, Himachal Pradesh States and other parts of Jammu region participated in the mela which started with taking out of a Shoba Yatra yesterday. The Shoba Yatra was taken out under the supervision of Mahant Ajay Dass, Mahant of Narsingh Dass Temple. The devotees were served prashad on both the days of Mela as the Mandir Committee had organized free langer on the occasion. The mela is linked to Pandav period and the Narsingh Dass temple was constructed by Dogra rulers. Besides Ghagwal the Mela is held at four places in Ramgarh tehsil of Udhampur district, Parnala village in Billawar tehsil and Hatli village in Kathua. On the occasion of Janamashtmi a grand festival cum mela is also held at the temple for eight days. Daily numerous devotees throng the temple to perform darshan of the Narsingh Ji Bhagwan. The langar at the temple complex is run 24 hours for the devotees. The Narsingh Bhagwan and Maa Annapurna be-seated in the temple have been believed to have agriculture importance. Whenever farmers sow their crops, they put the seed in the well prepared fields in the name of Narsingh Bhagwan. They have faith that Narsingh ji Bhagwan will ensure good germination of their crops, ensure good crop stand, protect their crops from all natural calamities and ensure bumper yields. Moreover, after the harvest the grains are filled before offering some part of their newly harvested produce to Narsingh Ji Temple. |
