Let opposition accept Modi's suggestion on cooperation
8/23/2016 10:44:02 PM
Well the opposition parties led
by Omar Abdullah, after
meeting President of India, Pranab Mukherjee yesterday, met the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on Monday and apprised him of the ground realities in Kashmir which has been ravaged by a 45 day long turmoil in which about 70 people have been killed and several thousand others, including security personnel, were injured. The opposition performed its duty. The opposition has to perform another duty of implementing what Modi had suggested to Omar Abdullah, G.A, Mir of the Congress and M.Y. Tarigami of the CPI (M). Modi has suggested to the opposition leaders to reach out to the people in association with the coalition Government. Because the Prime Minister has given sufficient hints to the opposition leaders that he would explore the possibility of holding talks with different sections of people but that too within the ambit of the constitution of India. Modi has said the government and nation stood one with Jammu and Kashmir and development alone could not resolve the problem that needs to be debated during the process of dialogue. The Prime Minister expressed concern and pain at the prevailing situation in the state. He said, "Those who lost their lives during recent disturbances are part of us, our nation; whether the lives lost are of our youth, security personnel or police, it distresses the Government."He told the opposition leaders from Jammu and Kashmir that his government and the nation stood with the state of Jammu & Kashmir and suggested that all political parties should reach out to people. He expressed his commitment to the development of the state and its people, and appealed for restoration of normalcy. The Prime Minister appreciated the constructive suggestions made in the meeting and reiterated his government's commitment to the welfare of citizens of the state.
He emphasized that there had to be dialogue and we needed to find a permanent and lasting solution to the problem within the framework of the Constitution. He emphasised on the need for all political parties to work together to find a solution to the problems in the state. This way Modi has sought cooperation from the opposition leaders and parties and not confrontation which could weaken the mainstream political spectrum. Now that the opposition leaders, who met Modi, did not favour the idea of dismissing the state Government or placing the state under the Governor's rule the possibilities of cooperation between the ruling coalition Government and the opposition seems to be bright. In the interests of peace and development the opposition needs to cooperate with the PDP-BJP alliance and find out ways for restoration of peace to Kashmir which alone could open the doors for development. When the valley is rocked by violence and shutdown implementation of development projects was impossible and hence the mainstream political spectrum should show unity which alone could defeat united separatists.
