Three pilgrims feared washed away in 'Cloud burst' in Kundeel

Kishtwar Aug 23: A tragedy struck during ongoing annual Machail Yatra in Padder of Kishtwar District when two teenage girls among three pilgrims went missing since Sunday evening when the cloudburst hit the Kundeel area, a village located about 15 KM from Gulabgarh on Padder-Machail Mata track.
As per the details available with "Early Times", the victims namely Sunita Devi (18 years), Manisha Rani (13 years) both daughters of Mangat Ram resident of Kuleed Chowk Kishtwar and Rajesh Sharma son of Babu Ram Sharma resident of Parnala Bilawar District Kuthua Jammu while return back to Gulabgarh were reportedly washed away in flash floods triggered in Machail Nallah after reported cloudburst in upper Kundeel.
As per the official sources, the two girls went missing soon after they go ahead in her journey leaving behind the family members who also accompanied them when the cloudburst hit the area.
"After searching them for long time at their own, the family members of the teen girls brought the matter into the notice of the local police which also launched a massive search operation in the area to trace the missing girls but the operation turned futile till the report was filed, reports said.
"The police also made announcements on loudspeakers regarding the missing girls and after finding no trace of them," they said.
"The police have also registered missing report and started its investigation," they added.
In similar incident the brother of the victim Rajesh Kumar Sharma informed the police that his brother washed away in flash floods while they were on its way back to Gulabgarh after performing Darshan, reports said. "The victims brother too had a miraculous escape," reports said quoting the brother of one victim. Meanwhile a senior police officer while confirming the development told 'Early Times' that police party headed by Additional SP Kishtwar Abdul Qayoom is presently camping at Padder while the searches are being conducted to trace out the missing persons. He however added after cloudburst, the Machail yatra is going on smoothly and so far more than 1.50 lakh pilgrims had paid the obeisance at the Chandi Matta temple till the beginning of the yatra.
