Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 23: State BJP leadership along with its team of senior ministers had to cut a sorry figure on Sunday amid a huge gathering assembled at Smailpur in Samba district in connection with Tiranga rally. Reason: The electricity went off at least three times, leaving all fretting and fuming under the scorching heat and humidity. It was for the second time the leadership faced such embarrassing moments in presence of a senior most Union Minister Arun Jaitley, the first time being last year when a similar situation of electricity cut was faced by another stalwart, none other than the Home Minister Rajnath Singh last year.
Sources within the party said it was in the middle of the function that light went off intermittently, no matter for a brief duration but it left every one, mainly the organizing team in an awkward position. More than the failure of sound system, the discomfort was felt due to scorching heat and humid conditions by the dignitaries on dais as also by the audience for whom fans had been arranged. As the electricity went off at least three times, it turned many heads and hands towards the Deputy Chief Minister on the dais, who is the concerned minister and boss in PDD.
Sources said this goof up left all in the party wondering whether the concerned minister has actually no grip or control over the department in failing to ensure uninterrupted power supply at least for few hours of function or it is the most often talked about case of deliberate action, rather sabotage by certain officers in the Department who are still learnt to be having an inclination towards the previous NC-Congress political bosses. In either case, it is the incumbent minister who is supposed to look into reasons as to why such things happen again and again in the BJP functions and amid presence of dignitaries no less than the Union ministers, sources said as the whisper going on in the party.
Sources further said when Union Home Minister had come last year in connection with yet another prestigious event organized by the party at KK resorts , entire rank and file of BJP was upbeat when the leadership claimed the party having achieved distinction of largest organization in the world with record number of membership.
As a part of the event, like in other parts the Union ministers had to counter check this by making personal visits to a couple of households. Rajnath Singh too did it, when he was taken to a household in nearby Patta Bohri. However, party leaders faced humiliation and embarrassing moments as the light went off as soon as the Minister stepped inside. It raised some uproar within the PDD but any action against any senior officer eludes till date, said the sources adding that the concerned minister too has shown no concern towards these repeated failures.
