| LeT threatens Baramulla SHO for busting its module | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 19: Pakistan-based terror organisation LeT is reported to have issued a warning to the station house office (SHO) of Baramulla police station for conducting a major operation in which at least 44 have been arrested for their alleged involvement in "terror-related activities".
Security forces had on Tuesday successfully busted terrorist hideouts in Baramulla sector of Jammu and Kashmir, during which the Army recovered bombs, flags of China and Pakistan, letterheads of LeT and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).
The operation was jointly conducted by the Border Security Force (BSF), CRPF and the Army. Ten localities, including Qazi Hamam, Ganai Hamam, Taweed Gunj and Jamia, which were indentified as terrorists hideouts, were spotted and operation were held.
"'It was a multi-agency crackdown in the old town of Baramulla in north Kashmir on Monday. After 700-odd houses were searched, security agencies seized petrol bombs, Chinese and Pakistani flags, LeT and Jaish letter pads, illegal mobile phones and other seditious material. A large number of suspected hideouts were also busted during the search operation," reports quoted defence spokesperson Manish Kumar as saying.
The BSF said the terrorists were planning to carry out Uri-type terror strike inside the country. Security arrested the terrorists in a joint siege of the entire old town, during which people were asked to stay indoors while security personnel conducted house-to-house searches.
To restrict public movement, forces had sealed the bridges connecting to the Civil Lines area. "We had information about the presence of terrorists in the area. It was an anti-militancy operation aimed at nabbing some Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists who had taken refuge in the area," Baramulla SSP Imtiyaz Hussain Mir was quoted as saying.
The police, meanwhile, arrested 122 more people allegedly involved in disrupting public order in Kashmir. The valley has been witnessing unrest following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in an encounter with security forces on 8 July.
The curfew imposed in the wake of violent protests that disrupted life in the valley continued and schools, colleges and government organisations remained shut for the 103rd day on Wednesday. Pakistan violated ceasefire 25 times in 10 days after the Uri attack other than the militant attack that also targeted civilians.
India, on the other hand, is trying to diplomatically isolate Pakistan globally following the Uri attack even as it bolsters its defences. |
