SRINAGAR, Oct 23: With Kashmir unrest going through the four month now signs are visible that a civil war might break out in the valley with the supporters and detractors of 'separatist sentiment' fighting it out in the open.
Aiming to create doubts among the common masses the miscreants over the past few weeks have carried out some activities. Auto-rickshaws, Tata Sumos and Scorpios have been burnt in many areas of the valley and this all was done to create fear psychosis among the people so that normalcy does not return to Kashmir.
However, the silver lining is that good chunk of population wants that normalcy should return to the valley. Over the past few weeks movement of private vehicles has picked up in many areas of the Srinagar city and other parts of Kashmir valley. At the same time the passenger traffic continues to be off the roads and this has created problems for the people.
As the transporters have availed the loan facility from various banks they are finding it difficult to repay the loan since they are not able to run their vehicles. The separatist leaders are adding insult to the injury with respect to transporters and no step whatsoever has been taken to mitigate their sufferings.
In their latest protest calendar the separatists had asked the transporters to run their vehicles during the days when relaxation is there. This is despite the fact that the separatists had announced the relaxation after 5 PM on four days during the latest weekly protest calendar. One fails to understand how transporters can operate their vehicles after 5 PM more so as the winter has set in Kashmir.
It would be in place to mention here that many people in Kashmir valley are upset with the separatists following their denial to meet the All Party Delegation during their visit to the valley in the first week of September. People believe that denial to meet the delegation members conveyed a message that separatists don't want the unrest to end and that they want that people should continue to suffer.
On their part the separatists are caught in Catch 22 situation. They have nothing to sell to the people and as such are in no position to ask the people to call off the strike and resume normal business. On the other hand they continue to face flak from transporters and daily labourers since they are most affected people in the society. The transporters and daily labourers are struggling to make the two ends meet and as such their family members are feeling the heat.
In nutshell people living in Kashmir have been pushed to the wall and only time will tell how far the current impasse would carry on. People in general want that normalcy returns to valley and there is no interference while they carry out daily chores of life. People have their fingers crossed and want the situation to have normal.
