HBET distributes scholarship during scholarship carnival

Jammu, Nov 24: Harbans Bhalla Educational Trust (HBET) commenced its Scholarship Carnival of nine days on 19 Nov 2016. Besides Scholarship distribution, students of class 1 to 10 participated in assessment tests.
On the 6th day of the Carnival, the guests of honor were Sangeeta Gupta, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax and Hemant Gupta, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax.
They had a healthy interaction with students and their parents. The guests told the students about the benefits of education and lauded the excellent work done by the Trust.
Gupta motivated the children by telling them her success story as she comes from a very small village in UP and the support she received from her parents made her reach where she is today.
Selection tests for new students were conducted from classes 1st to 3rd for next year. The Trust also organized free eye checkup of students/parents in coordination with the Bee Enn Charitable Society. Also free spectacles were provided among the parents and children diagnosed with weak eyesight. Counseling of parents/students was also conducted in collaboration with the Department of Psychology, Jammu University.
Every day about 60-65 students are invited along with their parents to collect the scholarship and new students are also screened for the next session.
Harbans Bhalla Educational Trust has been awarding scholarships since 1997. Initially HBET started by supporting 12 children and this year the Trust is reaching out to 570 children. The Trust aims to cover as many rural children as possible in and around Jammu.
Around 80% of the students are Girls and 85% students are from rural areas of Jammu region such as Hira Nagar, Chak, Rattian, Doomi, Gajansoo, R.S Pura, Birpur, Rehian, Jouriah, Dansal, Kangrail, Gurah Slathia, Ghou Manhasan, Saruinsar, etc.
Families of financially weak children from 1st to 3rd classes can apply to the Trust for scholarship. The Trust only accepts students studying in Govt. Schools.
The Trust supports needy and deserving children with renewed passion to remove ignorance and darkness from their lives by providing them the light of education.
