Kishtwar, Nov 28: Kishtwar Police on Monday booked an influential ruling Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader in Palmar area of Kishtwar district on the charges of rape and blackmailing a woman hailing from the same area.
As per the details available with "Early Times" Kishtwar Police received a complainant from the complainant (name withheld) who is the mother of four children, including three daughters, alleging that a BJP leader had committed rape on her and clicked her objectionable photographs with an aim to blackmail her. He had even forced her not to raise her voice.
The sources informed the "Early Times" the accused being a local was known to the 34 year old victim. He lured the victim and committed rape on her, sources alleged.
They said the victim did not reveal the incident to her family members fearing threat to her life and the security of the three minor daughters from the influential leader. He added that when the accused tried to blackmail her, she mustered courage to reveal her agony to one of her family members, who approached the police to get a FIR registered against the accused on rape charges.
One of the close relative of the victim told the "Early Times" that accused used all its resources by using both pressure tactics as well as the political approach to silence the victim and her family, but failed in his ill designs.
The sources said the victim's family approached the Kishtwar police on Saturday formally and submitted a written complaint before the Station House Officer Police Station Kishtwar who registered a FIR NO. 206/2016 U/S 376 RPC and started investigations and launched a manhunt to arrest the accused who is the father of three children, including two sons and a daughter.
When contacted a senior police officer said that FIR has been registered against the BJP leader, but refused to divulge the details related to the case. He said that police parties have been dispatched to arrest the accused and added that they are hopeful that accused would be arrested soon.
Asked whether Police would invoke the IT Act, the senior police officer said the accused had not circulated the photos of the victim to 3rd party and added that only after the arrest of the accused they would be able to know whether IT Act could be invoked or not and assured justice would be done with the victim lady without succumbing to any political pressure.
