Rail service from Srinagar to Baramulla suspended again | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 5 : Rail service between Srinagar and Baramulla in north Kashmir was again suspended today following damage to track in Pattan area. A railway offcial told that due to some damage caused to track, rail run from Srinagar-Badgam-Baramulla was suspended. He could not give further details, however said the damage was being fixed and rail will run as per schedule from tomorrow. Official sources, however, told that the track hooks were missing at Pattan, where security forces burst teargas shells and resorted to lathi-charge to disperse demonstrators who were protesting against the night raids on some houses at Palhallan yesterday. We cannot say if this a theft case or deliberately done by demonstrators to disrupt rail traffic, they said. Rail service between Baramulla in north to Badgam and Srinagar in central Kashmir and Anantnag and Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region remained suspended for more than four months due to unrest in the Kashmir Valley during which rail track and other property was damaged. However, the rail service was resumed last week after conducting repair work. |
