Early Times Report

Anantnag, Dec 5: Yet again, demolition squad of Pahalgam Development Authority was attacked by angry villagers in Movera area of Pahalgam when a joint team from PDA, Police and Municipal Committee kick started demolishing illegal structures.
According to reports, as soon as the squad arrived in Movera, angry villages started hooting and later pelted stones to foil the demolition drive.
They said that over 500 villagers including men, women and children attacked the squad and resorted to stone pelting during which four employees including a police constable sustained injuries. Injured were treated at Pahalgam hospital, reports said. Angry Villagers were demanding action against influential businessmen, Politicians and bureaucrats who have constructed luxury guest houses and hotels on the river bank. "Most of these structures have been raised on state land illegally during recent years" an angry villager shouted. However PDA alleged that a Srinagar based businessman and few other locals who are working as brokers instigated the residents.
" Gulzar Ahmad Rather s/o Mohd Ismail Rather R/o Movera working in PHE Department, Nisar Ahmad Shah s/o Abdul Salam Shahh, Mohd Amin Bhat s/o Abdul Gani and Mohd Rafi s/o Ghulam Hassan Malik were culprits who instigated the residents against the demolition squad," alleged the PDA complaint.
"We are approaching Police for registering an FIR against those residents who are on the payroll of violators and instigated the residents against PDA," Chief Executive Officer Pahalgam Development Authority Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani who was leading the squad later told Early Times.
He claimed that during the demolition drive they retrieved around 3 Kanals of prized encroached state land at Movera. The squad seized a large quantity of construction material from Golden Regency Hotel.
"This prime state land was encroached by a close relative of senior congress leader. I brought the issue into the notice of Deputy Commissioner Anantnag and at the same we shall ask the revenue authorities to demarcate the state land at Movera," CEO added. Earlier, Assistant Executive Engineer, Sajad Ahmad Malik told media that PDA will continue such demolition drives and implement the High Court Directions in letter and spirit.
Important to mention here, that High Court has imposed a blanket ban over the constructions in Pahalgam falling under the jurisdiction of Pahalgam Development Authority. However, despite High Court directive over 150 structures have come up in Movera locality of Pahalgam alone.
According to sources, at least two cabinet Ministers of Mehbooba Mufti led Cabinet own illegally raised structures at Movera.
