Early Times Report

Rajouri, Dec 5: In the year 2015-16 Power Development Department (PDD) had procured Transformers to be installed under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidhyutikaran Yojna in various villages in Rajouri district but the transformer supplied by the contractor have allegedly proved to be of sub standard quality as more than 40 % transformed got damaged within few days of their installations.
Expressing concerns over the issue especially after receiving complaints of damaging of power transformers, the Rajouri MLA, Ch Qamar Hussain too had also raised the matter with the Executive Engineer EM & RE Rajouri Division. Ironically even after the matter was taken up at several stages with the higher authorities by the affected people, nothing has been done in this direction to improve the situation and people in many villages still face blackout for weeks and months together due to damaging of transformers.
Sources said that MLA while raising the issue with Executive Engineer EM & RE Rajouri Division had specifically mentioned that material used in this transformer is of very low quality and hence majority of the transformers installed in the remote area got damaged within months of installations. Local MLA too had sought as Inquiry into this matter. According to well informed sources, crores of rupees have been embezzled by the higher officials in nexus with the contractor (s) by supplying sub standard transformers which are not repairable at PDD workshop at Rajouri.
"Power has been snapped due to damaging of 25 KVA Transformer for the last more than one year to Sialsui village and other hamlets under Jungdiyal panchyat in Kalakot tehsil," said Rohit and Maqbool Hussain resident of a Sialsui locality. Other villagers alleged that the issue was raised several times before the concerned officials but the transformer was not replaced nor it was repaired. One Rajesh Kumar said, "It seems that the concerned officials don't bother about the problems being faced by a common man. "Instead repairing/ replacing the damaged transformer, the department has been sending the bills regularly. It is evident from it that the official concerned are how much sincere to their duties," he added.
Many families of Phali Brahmna village are still without electricity since independenc while some localities of the village have been provided power connection but the voltage supplied is below 40 volt AC as no transformer has been provided in the village. While talking to local reporters, PDD inspector Mohd Ashraf informed that the matter about and transformer has already been taken up with the higher authorities and it was hoped that soon they will get green signal.
Meanwhile the locals have warned the department officials to repair/replace the damaged transformer within seven days otherwise they will lock the local office of the department.
