Now, Farooq says NC supports Hurriyat's cause | Hypocrisy, thy name is Abdullahs | | Junaid Ahmad Early Times Report srinagar, Dec 5: Opposition National Conference president and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah have gone out of way to please separatists in Kashmir. While in power the father-son duo was seeking tough action against the "anti-nationals", but when in opposition they speak the language of separatists, even asking workers to work for their cause. While paying tributes to NC founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on his 111th birth anniversary at his mausoleum here on Monday, Farooq Abdullah asked party workers to support the separatists in their cause. "I want to tell Hurriyat leaders not to go separate but be united, and we are standing with you. Don't consider us as your enemies. As long as you (separatists) won't follow the wrong path, we will support you in this cause," Farooq said in his speech. He said during last five months of agitation in the Valley, people have been fighting for their rights and the NC will support them in this cause. The NC president asked the party workers to remain part of the 'Tehreek'. "We are part of Tehreek. The NC has always fought for the interests of Jammu and Kashmir," the senior Abdullah said. Farooq made these remarks a day after his son and former JK CM, Omar Abdullah, said Pakistan cannot be held responsible for the recent agitation in Kashmir. The unrest, he said, was a result of "mistakes" made by the Indian government. "Do not be under this false impression that the fire you see in Kashmir has been ignited by Pakistan. It is a result of our mistakes," Omar had said while addressing a party function in Baramulla. After army's surgical strikes in Pakistan occupied Kashmir that was well hailed from across the country, it was Farooq and Omar Abdullah who either maintained silence or were against giving any befitting reply to Pakistan. Similarly, the duo has been demanding release of youth who participated in stone pelting, while in 2010 when Omar was in power, they used to call the stone-pelters "drug addicts working at the behest of Pakistan." Now, Farooq says that both India and Pakistan should exercise restraint and open all channels of communications to de-escalate the situation along the Line of Control and the International Border. When in power, he was advocating bombarding Pakistan. After the Uri attack, both the father and son maintained silence even as 19 soldiers lost their lives. In 2013, when Omar was the CM, he asked government of India to answer a fire with a fire if Pakistan continued to violate cease-fire along the LoC and International Border. He said that "other alternatives" can be explored besides talking on the issues, if Pakistan continued to violate ceasefire along the Jammu and Kashmir's borders. But after Uri and Pathankot attacks, Omar has maintained silence. |
