Influential travel operator 'illegally' detains youth | Abuses father, no FIR registered | | Early Times Report jammu, Dec 5: Proving an old saying that 'Poor man has no friends', Jammu and Kashmir police today acted as a mute spectator when an 'influential' travel operator (name withheld) abused father of the youth after he approached police to register complaint about the travel operator for allegedly detaining his son illegally. Meanwhile, the man was also denied access to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), when he tried to plead before the senior officer regarding release of his son. According to sources, a poor labourer hailing from backward area of Jammu had arrived Jammu after he received call from the concerned travel operator, demanding money for release of his son. "The poor labourer received a call from his wife saying that the concerned travel operator had illegally detailed their son and are demanding money for his release," said sources adding that the man immediately borrowed money from somewhere and reached Jammu to know whereabouts of his son. The sources said that the poor man approached the concerned travel operator, wherein he was threatened by the touts of the operator to bring money for release of his son. Talking to Early Times, the poor victim said that he received call from his wife regarding the episode, so without wasting time he managed little money to reach Jammu. "I belong to very backward area and I do labour job and earn daily livelihood. I received call from my wife saying that the concerned travel operator has detained our son," said victim father, adding that during last interaction with the travel operator, he was told that his son has caused damages to the vehicle. "My son is minor and the concerned travel operator had appointed him without verifying his credentials. I talked to my son and he told me that the owner of the agency had asked him to get driver for their buses, which he provided," said father, adding that the company hired him without checking his credentials. "Now, if the driver has caused damages to the vehicles, how come my son is responsible for the same," he said and added that the company is demanding Rs 20, 000 for his release. "I am poor and cannot afford to pay the same. My wife is worried about the condition of the son, as the police are also not registering the complaint," father said and added that when he was complaining about the same, influential travel operator flanked by couple of touts reached the station and started abusing him and his wife. The father also rued that when he went to meet SSP Jammu to plead for safety of his son, but the on duty policeman did not allow him to access the senior officer. |
