KUPWARA, Jan 10: With reports of ministers of BJP-PDP government enjoying sorties on state helicopter with their families still fresh, the relatives and neighbors of ex Naib Tehsildar traveled on foot for three days carrying his dead body to his native village in Karnah of Kupwara district, for last rites. The former revenue officer had died in SMHS hospital in Srinagar.
Despite repeated appeals, the authorities did not arrange a helicopter to take the body of the deceased to his native village despite of the inclement weather and inaccessible terrain. Sources said that after hectic efforts the dead body was later taken by road from Srinagar to Kupwara and from Kupwara district headquarters to his native place Karnah for last rites.

e rural masses were facing the burnt, it is only the relatives and neighbors of the deceased who took the body of the deceased on their shoulders and crossed Sadna top. People rued that despite knocking at the doors of many, no politician came to the help of the family of the former revenue officer, who wanted to take the body for last rites gracefully.

The local residents of the area said that there are scores of far flung and remote villages, including those near the Line of Control (LoC), remained cut-off from their respective district and tehsil headquarters due to heavy snowfall.
Sources said that the life of common masses especially of those who are living in rural areas have becomes tough and paralyzed during winters and what happened with the body of the former revenue officer is a reflection of the hardships that people are subjected to.
