Commissioner STD reviews functioning of department in Jammu

JAMMU, Feb 6: Commissioner State Taxes department (STD), P K Bhat today chaired a meeting with all State Tax Officers (STOs) of Jammu division to review functioning as well as assess ongoing activities of the department.
The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner State Taxes Administration & Enforcement, Jammu, Namrita Dogra; State Taxes Officers from all circles of Jammu Division and other concerned officers.
During the meeting, discussions were held to streamline strategies for improved tax compliance and revenue augmentation while as stress was laid on ensuring 100% return filing compliance and creating deterrence among the defaulters.
The meeting also discussed other key issues like identification of Fake ITC Suppliers, monitoring of TDS Payments, action on Intelligence Reports, Audit and Revenue Realization, Verification of E-Way Bills and other issues.
Addressing the meeting, the Commissioner emphasized on the pivotal role of the department in ensuring financial discipline and highlighted priority areas requiring immediate attention.
He laid focus on revenue augmentation, proper scrutiny and tracking of E-way bills, optimal use of technology for assessment of red flags, tax evasion and input tax credit mismatch cases.
He directed to ensure timely return filing.
The Commissioner also directed the officers to create awareness amongst masses for availing a golden chance to settle outstanding tax liabilities for financial years (2017-18, 2018-19, and 2019-20) under GST Amnesty Scheme without the burden of penalties or interest.
The Commissioner reiterated the department’s commitment to maintaining constant vigilance and fostering a culture of accountability.
He stressed the importance of a proactive approach in identifying non-compliance and enhancing revenue generation for the state.
During the meeting, Namrita Dogra apprised the Commissioner regarding the status of various activities and presented circle wise report.
She stressed inter circle coordination to detect tax evasion and revenue leakage cases.
The officers were directed to ensure compliance by banquets, and restaurants and adopt innovative approaches to identify tax evasions.
