GCW Udhampur holds awareness program

UDHAMPUR, Feb 8: To spread awareness among girl students, the Committee Against Sexual Harassment (CASH) under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur organized an awareness programme on the topic Breaking the Silence: understanding and Preventing Sexual Harassment in the college campus here today.
The awareness programme was organized under the able guidance of Principal of the college Dr. Nalini Pathania and under the supervision of the convenor CASH Associate Professor, Dr. Seema Sharma.
Ms. Meenakshi Jamwal, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, this college was the resource person in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Resource Person Prof. Meenakshi Jamwal explained the various definitions of harassment in detail. She said that the aim is to create awareness about prevention of sexual harassment by promoting gender amity among college students and to deal with cases of sexual harassment in a time bound manner and ensuring support services to prevention and termination of harassment.
Prof. Jamwal said that the main objective of the program is to create awareness related to occurrence of sexual harassment guidance to prevent and promote gender amity among students.
Prof. Meenakshi Jamwal emphasized that students need to identify and prevent sexual harassment behaviour, issues and recognize the difference between sexual harassment and discrimination. Students where made aware about POSH Act, procedures for Reporting sexual Harassment.
The students found the session to be quite engaging and that it would help them in their everyday life. The event successfully created awareness on young minds on POSH ACT and its relevance in the workplace.
During the programme, Ms. Janvi, a student of Semester 4 presented a poem based on an inspirational which was highly appreciated by the audience.
The entire event was organised and coordinated by Dr. Seema Sharma (Convenor CASH Committee ) , Dr. Mool Raj and Prof Yash Kumar.
The program was concluded by the formal vote of thanks presented by Dr. Mool Raj member CASH Committee. The programme was conducted by Teesha, a Semester 4 student.
Among others, Co-Convenor CASH, Dr. Sanjeet Kour, Lecture in Music, Ms. Anita Sharma and a large number of students were also present on the occasion.
