Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 11: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Jammu organized an awareness program on the growing menace of narcotics terrorism. The program, aimed at educating students was led by Ranjeet Singh Jamwal, senior advocate, Jammu and Kashmir High Court. Dr. Dilip Kumar, Regional Director, IIMC Jammu also played a pivotal role in mentoring the students from all courses at the institute.
During the session, senior advocate Ranjeeet Singh Jamwal highlighted the alarming nexus between narcotics trafficking and terrorism. He emphasized that the youth are often the primary targets in the world of narcotics terrorism. "If you want to destroy a civilization, target its youth," he said, stressing the vulnerability of young minds to drug addiction and terrorist recruitment.
Advocate Jamwal pointed out that Jammu like many other regions has been a consistent target for such activities with international terrorist organizations exploiting the situation. The ongoing "narcotics terrorism" crisis was described as a serious concern that not only harms individuals but also poses a significant threat to national security.
The session also touched upon the strategies used by narcotics terrorists particularly their focus on students as soft targets. Jamwal further mentioned that students often in vulnerable situations are unintentionally captured into the drug network which is compounded by their eating habits and socializing in uncontrolled environments. The resource person urged the attendees to stay vigilant and be cautious of what they consume, especially when dining outside. "Drugs and alcohol have become part of a dangerous cocktail being used to manipulate the youth," he said.
Dr. Dilip Kumar in his address called for collective responsibility in tackling the growing challenge of narcotics terrorism. He encouraged the students to stay informed, spread awareness, and be proactive in ensuring their safety and the safety of their peers. This awareness program served as a crucial reminder of the severe implications of narcotics terrorism, highlighting the importance of youth engagement in combating this growing threat to society. In this awareness program, Dr. Vinit Utpal, Dr. Ravia Gupta, Mr. Vishv, Dr. Ravinder Singh, Rajeev Kumar, Gulshan, and Madhusudan were present on this occasion.
