Netaji Subash Chandra Bose was born on January 23,1897, in Cuttack, Odisha. A visionary leader, he played a pivotal role in India’s freedom movement. Netaji played a vital role in India’s freedom struggle by forming the Indian National Army[Azad Hind Fauj] and the Azad Hind Government. His leadership and revolutionary approach inspired unity and courage against British rule. January 23is celebrated in India as Parakram Diwas [Day of Valour], honouring the birth anniversary of the iconic freedom fighter Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, with events focusing on his courage, patriotism and selfless service ,encouraging youth to act with fortitude. Celebrations include flag hoisting, patriotic gatherings, cultural programs in schools/colleges, exhibitions on his life [like those in Odisha’s Barabati Fortin 2025], and national tributes to his contributions to India’s independence. The purpose of celebrating Parakram Diwas is to honour Netaji Subash Chandra Bose’s indomitable spirit and selfless service to the nation, inspiring patriotism and fortitude. The Parakram Diwas was declared by the GOI to commemorate his 125th birth anniversary starting in 2021.On this occasion commemorations led by the Prime Minister, with events often featuring high-level committees ,exhibitions, and digital launches like Bharat Parav [showcasing India’s diversity]. Schools and colleges organise special events, including flag hoisting, patriotic songs, and discussions on Netaji’s legacy. Exhibitions are held displaying rare photographs, books, and archival materials from Netaji’s revolutionary journey are common things to see on this day. Politicians, and intellectuals pay tribute, discussing his role in forming the Azad Hind Fauj and his fight for independence. It is celebrated annually on 23rd of January with enthusiasm and fervour as well as patriotism. He played a pivotal role in Indian independence movement. He was the head of Azad Hind Fauj and he was also the founder head of Azad Hind Government. About 5 months after the disappearance of Netaji, the Netaji Jayanti was celebrated in Rangoon. Netaji’s legacy is rooted in his steadfast belief in self-reliance, sacrifice, and patriotism. His leadership gave a new dimension to India’s freedom struggle, with slogans like ‘’Freedom is not given, it is taken ‘’inspir8ing millions. Statue of Subash Chandra Bose was built by the centre government. It is also known as the Netaji’s statue and is a monolithic statue made of black granite, dedicated to Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, Commander -in -chief of the Axis -aligned Indian National Army. The statue 28 feet in total height, including a 8 feet in total width. It is placed under the canopy behind India Gate in Delhi. The statue was sculpted by Mysuru -based sculptor Arun Yogiraj, whose other prominent works include the statue of Adi Shankaracharya in Kedarnath. Subash Chandra Bose was an Indian nationalist who served as a 2rd leader of Indian National Army and head of the Provisional Government of Free India. First joined the INC and was elected twice as president ,he later resigned from Congress and formed the All India Forward Bloc. In 1942 he was put under house arrest by the British government. However ,he managed to escape to Germany via Afghanistan and the Soviet Union .Later he arr8ived in Singapore from Germany .In 1943,,Subash Chandra Bose revived the idea of forming an army for independence. At a meeting held in Singapore in July ,Rasbihari Bose handed over control of the Indian Independence League to Netaji .He was able to reorganise the army and mobilize widespread support among the India diaspora in Southeast Asia. Prime minister Narendra Modi announced the construction of statue of Subash Chandra Bose in 2021and later it was installed in the canopy of India Gate to mark ‘Azadi Ka Amirt Mahotsav, commemorating 75 years of independence as well as Bose’s 125th birth anniversary.
