Demand for removing Omar Abdullah gaining momentum

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 13: Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) has been demanding dismissal of Omar Abdullah-led coalition government since long. It has been accusing Omar Abdullah of being "criminally liable for arson and loot in the Valley" and consistently asking the Prime Minister to bring the disturbed Jammu and Kashmir under the Governor's rule. Besides, it is opposing the autonomy demand and advocating the need of reorganizing the state.
Almost all the Jammu-based political groups, barring the Congress, which is sharing power with the National Conference, are also for the immediate dismissal of the Omar Abdullah-led government. They are accusing Omar Abdullah and his colleagues of being "hand-in-glove" with the Kashmiri separatists. They are also demanding action against the Kashmiri separatists and making it loud and clear that they would not accept any solution other than the one that integrates the state fully into India and empowers the people of Jammu and Ladakh provinces to manage their own affairs themselves in a meaningful manner. Most of the Jammu-based political groupings are, like the Panthers Party, demanding reorganization of the state on regional, as opposed to religious, lines, asserting reorganization of the state is the only panacea available to end the age-old scourge of discrimination.
The Jammu and Kashmir BJP, which till the other day had been pledging support to the National Conference and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for reasons best known to it, has also come out openly against the Omar Abdullah-led government, saying it has failed to discharge its constitutional obligations. Its youth wing has been torching copies of the autonomy report since days know and holding demonstrations across the state and trying to convey an impression that the BJP is opposed to the autonomy concept as being advocated by the National Conference and similar other Kashmir-centric and separatist-friendly formations, including CPI and CPI-M. Other state BJP leaders are crisscrossing Jammu province and organizing "Save Kashmir" functions.
Similarly, Panun Kashmir, a frontline organization of the displaced and persecuted community of Kashmiri Hindus, too, has been putting forth almost similar demands and warning the Union Government of grave consequences in case it conceded the autonomy demand. So much so, it has come out openly and asked the Union Government to start parleys with it so that a separate Homeland invested with union territory status is set up within the Kashmir Valley. Its argument is that "the situation in Kashmir has once again demonstrated the communal, exclusivist and extremely regressive ideological content of all variants of separatist campaign going on there." "The creation of centrally-administered territory in Kashmir province, situated to the North and East of River Jhelum, for rehabilitation of Kashmiri Hindus driven out of the Valley from time to time and in 1990, now more than a million people, has become an imperative necessity. The Government of India and the Indian political class must recognize this necessity to save the integrity and sovereignty of the Indian nation in the state of Jammu and Kashmir and initiate a dialogue with Panun Kashmir on the issue without any delay," the Panun Kashmir leadership said on Saturday wile talking to media persons at the Jammu Press Club.
So much so, the Panun Kashmir said: "It symbolizes the resistance of Hindus of Kashmir against all forms of Muslim separatism in the state, including the claim for autonomous Muslim majority identity" and that it "condemns the anti-national, brazenly communal, separatist and secessionist agitation, which is going on in Kashmir for quite sometime now with the help of Pakistan and other hidden enemies of India."
Panun Kashmir leadership did not stop here. It went on to say: "Panun Kashmir wants to state very clearly without mincing any words that Kashmir is neither a Muslim preserve nor it a no-man's land. Government of India has no mandate to convert it into a Muslim preserve. Panun Kashmir wants to unequivocally state that the Indian freedom envisaged by transfer of power in India did not give any community, any people or even any ethnic or religious identity the right to divide India. Muslims of Kashmir, whatever the demographic status, cannot lay claim to any prior right of secession of Jammu and Kashmir or even Kashmir Valley from India. It recognizes that all the variants of separatism in Jammu and Kashmir are bereft of any commitment to the right to equality, the right to freedom and liberty and the right protection against discrimination. It recognizes separatist movement in Kashmir Valley as negation of all fundamental rights." The Panun Kashmir leadership is absolutely right. None of its formulations could be questioned. The ongoing movement in the Kashmir Valley is indeed communal, regressive and intolerant and what the Chief Minister of the state has been doing is only supplementing the efforts of the Kashmiri separatists. The bottom-line in Kashmir is separatism and that was what the Panun Kashmir leadership explained away during its interaction with reporters. (To be continued)
