Why is PDP president silent? | Mehbooba forgets to greet people on Eid! | | early times report jammu, Sept 13: The Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) president and leader of opposition, Mehbooba Mufti, it seems, has gone into hibernation for `political reasons'. The otherwise firebrand leader has gone off the political spectrum of Kashmir at a time when situation has worsened. People assign different reasons for her `meaningful' silence. Her hibernation started with her visit to Ajmer last month where she paid her obeisance at the mausoleum of Khawaja Moin-ud-Din Chisti. The shrine is held in high esteem by the people of the sub-continent irrespective of the faith they profess. Cricket players, cine stars and politicians visit the shrine to seek the blessings of the revered saint. On her return from Ajmer, Mehbooba informed people believe, met people who run the show from New Delhi. She was told in clear terms not to add fuel to the already explosive situation in Kashmir, they believe. Mehbooba gave sleepless nights to Omar Abdullah and his ministers by her statements. She used words like `autocrat' and `killer' for Omar. Her response evoked severe reaction from the Chief Minister and senior National Conference leaders like Ali Muhammad Sagar. They accused her of funding and patronizing the stone pelters. Mehbooba also abstained from the All Party Meet of the Chief Minister. She also did not accompany the delegation that apprised the Prime Minister of the Kashmir situation last month. Mufti also held a demonstration outside the civil secretariat and locked its gates to "gives the authorities a feel of being jailed." She sought revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and the Public Safety Act (PSA) which according to her was draconian. And last but not the least Mufti forgot to wish the people good luck on the occasion of Eid. In Jammu Kashmir every politician, at times through paid advertisements, greet people on the occasion of Eid. However, a PDP worker said a statement had been issued which was ignored by the press for unknown reasons. The leader of opposition's silence has evoked interesting discussions across Kashmir. While some say she has been directed by New Delhi to keep mum, others believe she is waiting for `opportune' time to break her silence. |
