Rajouri, Poonch DDCs adopt similar strategy to defuse tension

Rajouri, Sept 14: Deputy Commissioners of twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch besides some local representatives played vital role in defusing tension in this area by organizing all communities meetings at both the places.
Following violent protest in Poonch on Monday, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Ghulam Ahmed Khawaja organized meeting with the local religious and social bodies and sought their cooperation in maintaining peace in tranquility in the district. Khawaja invited all leaders of Muslim, Hindu and Sikh community in his office last night and the meeting continued till 11 PM in which DDC requested all of them to discourage violent mechanism of protest. On behalf of Muslims, President of Muslim Coordination Committee Abdul Qayoom Dar assured DDC that they will avoid any type of violence in their protest and will held it peacefully. On the other hand, Hindu leaders also assured that they will maintain communal harmony and will support the protest of Muslims.
Following DDC’s request to all communities, Hindu, Muslim and Sikh leaders sit together and framed strategy of joint protest in Rajouri.
Meanwhile in Poonch, although administration did not list curfew, Deputy Commissioner KL Khajuria along with Member Legislative Assembly Poonch Ajaiz Ahmed Jan hold meeting with all communities in Poonch to discuss the present situation in the area. MLA and DDC requested all the communities to maintain communal harmony and avoid confrontation with each other. They also framed peace committees and assigned them the task to maintain peace in the area.

Ajaz Jan told Early Times that he managed this meeting to defuse the tension in the area. He said that yesterdays violence was unfortunate. He added that people of Poonch are peace lovers.
Clarifying that the protest in Poonch was purely against the desecration of Holy Quran in USA and it had no links with Kashmir crises. “We had come to streets to stage our protest against USA not in support of Kashmir agitation”, MLA said adding that some newspaper have wrongly reported that people of Poonch supported Kashmir agitation. “We believe in the Constitution of India and we have fought wars with Pakistan for saving our nation India”, he added rejecting any affection with Pakistan.
