Ahead of R-Day, BSF issues shoot at sight orders | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 19: Amid reports that terrorists are planning a major strike ahead of Republic Day and in wake of the visit of the United States President Barack Obama to India, the Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF) today said that shoot at sight orders have been issued along International border with Pakistan to prevent any major infiltration bid. The IG, BSF Rakesh Sharma said, "shoot at sight" orders are in place to check anti-national or suspicious movement along the border. He said the top brass of the BSF which recently reviewed security situation along the IB in Jammu frontier has also directed the field commanders to give befitting reply to any attempts of infiltration. Commenting on the shift in the Pak strategy Sharma said the 'K' (Kashmir) factor was the reason behind Pakistan shifting its attention to the international border(IB) from the Line of Control(LoC). "Though there is a brief lull on the LoC with context to cross border terrorism and ceasefire violations, Pakistan has shifted its attention to international border only to keep the 'K' factor alive," he said. "It is unfortunate that they have now started targeting civilians," he added. Sharma said they (Pakistan) wants to disturb peace in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in Jammu region one way or the other with an aim to keep the 'Kashmir Factor' alive. On the present situation along the IB, the IG said, "At the moment, the border is calm but it is an 'untrusted calm'. "The BSF is always on alert and all arrangements with regard to security, are in place," he said. "Attempts to sneak into the Indian territory are being made but we have successfully foiled all the bids," Sharma said. He claimed that five infiltration attempts from Pakistan's side were foiled during this month. |
