AIIMS Jammu Holds Cyber Crime Awareness Programme

Jammu, Nov 9: In the present World, people are more digitally connected than ever before. Criminals take advantage of this online transformation to target weaknesses in online systems, networks and infrastructure. There are Cyber actors and Cyber Scamsters with local, national and international connections handling a billion-dollar crime industry. This cyber fraud and scamsters have made a massive economic and social impact on governments, businesses and individuals worldwide.
Phishing, ransomware, Digital Aristocide porn and data breaches are just a few examples of current cyberthreats, while new types of cybercrime are emerging all the time. Cybercriminals are increasingly agile and organized – exploiting new technologies, tailoring their attacks and cooperating in new ways.
Cybercrimes know no national borders. Criminals, victims and technical infrastructure span multiple jurisdictions, bringing many challenges to investigations and prosecutions.
The Government of India has taken extreme steps to curb this menace, of this one of the important steps to prevent such crime is Spreading Awareness among the Public.
The Department of Forensic Medicine, AIIMS, Vijaypur Jammu had organized Cyber Crime Awareness Programme on 7th November 2024.The Programme was chaired by the Executive Director & CEO, Dr Shakti Kumar Gupta and was organized by Professor (Dr)Dinesh Rao, HOD, Forensic Medicine.
Mr Mohammed Yasin Kichloo, SSP, Cyber Investigation Center for Excellence, Jammu, J&K addressed the gathering. He highlighted the methods adopted by the Cyber Crime Actors and the tricks adopted by Cyber Crime Scamsters to lure the citizens and inducing them into a well planned monetary trap to extort to their advantage. He gave numerous examples of such incidents reported in the city and the methods adopted by the Cyber Crime Division to arrest the perpetrators.
Kichloo cautioned as how the innocents and ignorant are trapped through Social Medial Platforms like the WhatsApps, Facebook, Instagrams…and the details available in those platforms are used to create Fake IDs and the same is used in so called Cyber Crime scamsters and Cuber Crime Actors in committing Cyber Crimes. He also explained the way the AI [Artificial Intelligence] is manipulated by the Cyber Crime Actors to Deep Fake the IDs of prominent people or known people to influence and lure the innocents and the ignorant and extort them or subject them in to so called “Digital Arrest”.
Kichloo warned the social media users on the disadvantages of using these platforms to update their IDs and their daily activities /events and the way this information been used to commit the crime. He also highlighted the dangers involved in official transactions with Gmail portals. He demonstrated on a website called www.tafcop.co.in, wherein one can trace by himself if any phone numbers [SIM] have been issued to others in one’s IDs. He impressed upon the fact as how many of us casually divulge the details of our IDs by discarding the Boarding passes, revealing contact details at shopping malls, sharing OTPs and logging into unauthorized sites or links in the messages. He highlighted the importance of Securing Information in Hospitals and flagged the measures needed to be adopted to safe guard the faculty, staff and the patients.
Kichloo shared with the participants the safety precautions to be taken and made them aware on how to handle Cyber frauds. He advised the audience to report to the help line no 1930 in the event of a cyber crime and register their complaints in the following web sites:

4. www.haveibeenpwned.com
He also informed about the web site www.haveibeenpwned.com ,wherein one can check if some one has taken control of their IDs in the form of Email or user profiles.
The Cyber Awareness Programme was first of its kind at AIIMS Jammu. The Programme was well attended by the Faculty, Staff, IT Team and Students of AIIMS, Jammu. The ED & CEO, Dr Shakti Kumar Gupta spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of such Programmes and suggested everyone to follow the suggestions of Mr Kichloo. He further emphasized that to prevent/mitigate cybercrimes awareness of cybercrime and its prevention is vital and regular monitoring & audit should be done at the Institute. Professor (Dr) Dinesh Rao, HoD, Forensic Medicine, AIIMS Jammu organized and coordinated the Programme.
