SAJ to host landmark National Surgical Conference
11/12/2024 9:44:25 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 12: The Surgeons Association of Jammu (SAJ) is set to host its inaugural three-day national surgical conference, SAJCON-2024, from November 14 to 16, in collaboration with the Department of Surgery, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, and ASCOMS Jammu. The event aims to advance surgical knowledge and practices by bringing together over 30 distinguished faculty members and around 300 delegates from across India.
Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal and Dean of GMC Jammu, expressed pride in hosting this event, highlighting its diverse focus on oncology, laparoscopic and invasive surgeries, robotics, and other cutting-edge surgical techniques. "We are honored to host some of the best surgical minds in the country. This conference will be a valuable opportunity for students and faculty to learn from and engage with national experts," said Dr. Gupta.
With the theme "Stepping Towards Surgical Excellence," the conference will feature hands-on workshops, live surgeries, paper presentations, and poster sessions. The opening day on November 14 will include a live operative workshop at GMC Jammu's advanced operating theaters, where expert surgeons from across India will perform live surgeries, which will be broadcast to an audience of around 1,000 postgraduate (PG) students and surgical professionals.
Dr. Ratnakar Sharma, Head of the Department of Surgery at GMC Jammu and Chairperson of the SAJ, explained that the concept for this conference emerged in January 2024, following the formation of the SAJ. "This conference is a significant milestone for our association and the medical community in Jammu, allowing local PGs to present research and participate in academic discussions without needing to travel outside Jammu," he shared.
The conference will continue on November 15 and 16 with presentations from renowned guest faculty and local experts. On the final day, a dedicated session will feature paper and poster presentations by PGs and senior residents, essential for their academic progression and examination eligibility.
SAJCON-2024 has been accredited by the State Medical Council, offering 12 credit points for faculty members, contributing to their professional development. Dr. Zahur Hussain, the conference's Organizing Secretary, highlighted the event's significance as a precursor to future gatherings aimed at fostering continuous learning and collaboration. "We intend to make this an annual event, reinforcing ties within the surgical community in Jammu and beyond," Dr. Hussain noted.
The conference is poised to leave a lasting impact on the surgical community both locally and nationally, with plans to rotate future editions across various institutions, further strengthening regional surgical networks.
