Now Imran Khan's Kashmir remarks widen fissures in JRL | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 28: The remarks of Pakistan's prospective Prime Minister Imran Khan that Kashmir is a "core issue" between India and Pakistan and needs to be resolved through "dialogue" has left the so called Joint Resistance Leadership divided again. Sources said the Hurriyat Conference G headed by Syed Ali Geelani has taken a "serious note" of Khan's remarks as it clashes with ideology of the separatist outfit headed by the pro-Pakistan hawk. "While the Hurriyat G calls for solution to Kashmir through UN resolution, which is plebiscite for merger of Kashmir with India or Pakistan, Imran Khan spoke about the solution through dialogue between the two countries, which is against the our ambitions," said a Hurriyat G leader on the condition of anonymity. Sources said the Hurriyat G has conveyed displeasure over Khan's remarks and wanted the so called Joint Resistance Leadership to issue a statement "asking Imran Khan to clarify his stand on Kashmir." But the sources said other main constituents of the JRL, including Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front headed by Muhammad Yasin Malik and the Hurriyat M headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq didn't buy viewpoint of their senior colleague. Sources said though the parties subsequently separately welcomed Khan's statement, the lack of consensus in the JRL has only added to the widening fissures. "See why nobody finally criticized Imran Khan was only because now it's clear that he will form the government and thus will happen to be the paymaster of the separatists for the coming times, so the separatists don't want to displease the prospective boss," the sources said. To mention, as already reported by Early Times, the JRL is already running into strained relations between the stakeholders. Sources said Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik often agree to disagree on most of the issues pertaining to Kashmir. "JRL is fast turning redundant and irrelevant. There's so much of lack on consensus that the constituents often end up releasing separate statements, so this conglomerate may collapse anytime," the sources said. It was reliably learnt the decision to continue to with the JRL or disband it would be taken only after the new government is in place in Pakistan. "These puppets like JRL are handled by Pakistani government so decision on their further existence will only be taken once new movement is in place and decides about new roles for them," quipped a source close to the JRL. |
