'Sub-standard material used to construct school building under RMSA' | Laitar residents allege contractors- engineers nexus, write to LG, DC | | AJAY SHARMA Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 17: Residents of Laitar in tehsil Pouni in Reasi district are up in arms against the authorities for allegedly using substandard material for constructing a school building under RMSA scheme. Residents told Early Times that they have submitted a representation to Deputy Commissioner Reasi and to the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, about the contractors using substandard material to construct the building. They said that representation has been signed by 80 people. "The building was constructed at the cost of Rs 64 lakhs out of which Rs 60 lakhs have been released," they added. Newly elected member of District Development Council (DDC), Kewal Krishan said that he has also written to DC Reasi to order a probe so that the nexus between the contractors and engineers is exposed. When this reporter contacted one of the junior engineer's, he admitted that there are some "flaws" with the building and they are looking into it. Another resident said, "The building has already been constructed. Do they want to dismantle the building and reconstruct it again? The payment has already been released. The fact is that the material that has been used to construct the building is not upto the mark." Residents appealed to the Anti Corruption Bureau to take the cognizance of the matter and file a FIR against the erring contractors, who have constructed the building and the officials who have approved it. "Once the school starts functioning and some untoward incident takes place. Who will be responsible? This is a serious discrepancy and people involved in it should be held accountable," residents added. |
