Early Times Report

Srinagar, May 25: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir P K Pole has sought a detailed report from all Deputy Commissioners over the complaints about revenue officers having encroached stand land in different areas across Kashmir.
Quoting communications received from the officer LG’s grievance cell and from the office of Financial Commissioner Revenue J&K, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has directed all Deputy Commissioner’s to enquire into the matter and submit a detailed report within a month. The complainants who have approached LG’s grievance cell are seeking termination of Lamberdars and Chowkidars who have illegally raised their residential and commercial structures on state land or Kahcharie Land. They are also seeking action against the revenue officials who have illegally raised their residential houses and commercial structures on state land or Kahcharie Land by misusing their official position.
According to reports, a number of Revenue Officers including Tehsildars have allegedly encroached state land or Kahcharie land in their native areas.
“These officers misused their official positions to encroach the state land,” sources alleged. They also alleged that these officers even helped their relatives and friends to grab the prized land at different locations.
The revenue officers from Lamberdars to Tehsildars in nexus with land mafia propagated the narrative that all state land will be handed over to non-locals for establishing colonies and thus provoked even law abiding citizens to encroach the land.
“This all happened after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. The top officials of the Revenue Department even propagated this narrative and didn’t take action against those people who encroached land and raised huge residential and commercial structures on it,” they added.
