2 OGWs arrested, arms & ammunition recovered on Kashmir highway

Srinagar, Jun 6 :Police arrested two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) alongwith huge cache of arms and ammunition -- including two AK 56 rifles, 10 pistols and nine grenades -- on Srinagar-Jammu national highway.

A police official on Sunday said that following specific information, a checkpoint was established at Lowermunda in Qazigund on 280-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway. “Police intercepted a Kashmir-bound tipper at the checkpoint and during checking recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition -- including two AK 56 rifles, eight AK magazines, ten 9mm pistols, 18 pistol magazines, 90 9x19 mm ammunition and 9 grenades,” he said.

He said the driver of the vehicle, identified as Zahid Nabi and another person Mehraj ud din Dar, both residents of Sambora Kakapora in Pulwama, were arrested. “Preliminary investigation reveals that both the arrested persons are militant associates,” he said.

He said a case vide FIR No. 127/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Qazigund and further investigation is going on.
