Early Times Report

Anantnag, Dec 10: Deputy Commissioner Anantnag has directed Chief Executive Officer Kokernag Development Authority to implement Kokernag Master Plan 2011-22 and issue building permissions under BOCA rules.
The Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Dr Piyush Singla (IAS) has also constituted a high-level committee to identify illegal constructions coming up in and around famous tourist spot Kokernag.
Deputy Commissioner issued a detailed order in this regard days after Early Times highlighted the issue of non-implementation of Kokernag Master Plan and published a detailed report titled ‘10 years on, KDA fails to implement Master Plan’.
In his order, the Deputy Commissioner said that through local dallies it came in his notice that ‘enormous illegal constructions were going at Kokernag and the officials are keeping mum and not taking action against the violators’.
On the directions of DC Anantnag, SDM Kokernag had sought a detailed report from MC Kokernag which vide letter No. MC/K/2021-22/2048-52 submitted that CEO KDA has communicated to them that Kokernag has approved the Master Plan and has asked MC Kokernag to refrain from issuing building permissions.
As already highlighted the Kokernag Master Plan 2011-22 stands approved vide order No. 64/TSM/2011 dated 31-01-2011, however CEO KDA deliberately didn’t implement the Master Plan to favor rich, infl

ential and those connected with political parties. In his order, DC Anantnag directed CEO KDA to implement the Master Plan and issue building permissions under BOCA rules.
He also took cognizance of reports of illegal constructions and constituted a force to be headed by SDM Kokernag comprising officials from Revenue, Police and MC Kokernag.
“The joint task force will identify any illegal constructions in contravention to Kokernag Master plan and stop the illegal constructions,” reads the order.
The team will also initiate a process for demolishing any constructions already undertaken. The team will submit a monthly report. The team has been directed to complete the entire process in 3 months. As per the order issued, the step has been taken to preserve the ecologically fragile tourist resort of Kokernag and prevent any irreversible damage.
Dr Singla said that the order is aimed at curbing illegal construction in the tourist resort. He said that strict action under rules will be initiated against violators. He added that any official found to be in cohesion with the violators will also be taken to task under rules.
He also directed to CEO KDA to ensure the official website of the development authority is maintained so that applicants can apply online. This paper had also highlighted the fact that the official website of KDA was down due to the reasons best known to authorities.
