Early Times Report

Kishtwar, Jan 6: People living in remote areas of Doda and Kishtwar Districts have to travel miles to reach nearest road point and the most difficult task for them is to shift the patients in case of emergencies. In one such recent incident people traveled around 17/20 KM in the Dessa area of Doda District to take a patient on a traditional Palki (Sedan box) to reach the nearest road point from where they boarded a vehicle to reach a hospital. The video of people carrying a patient in a Palki has gone viral. Residents of Malaan Dessa said that due to lack of road connectivity, they face a lot of problems and health problems are the major concern for them. “We suffer immensely in the absence of basic health facilities. In case of emergency we are left with no option other than to shift the critically ill patients on our shoulders up to GMC Doda, which is around 20 kms away from our village,” they said. A Panch Surjeet Kumar said, “I am also an elected member of a Panchayat. Many political leaders come here at the time of election to ask for votes and show big dreams to the people at that time, but those dreams always remain dreams as nothing changes at the end of the day. Residents said that they many times sought the attention of the government towards construction of the road for the village, but the same has always been unfair towards the people. They demanded immediate attention of the government so that the work on the road for the Malaan Dessa is started as soon as possible. The people also sought immediate intervention of the LG led government and urged upon the local administration to take up the matter with concerned quarters to start the work immediately.
