Krishi Vigyan Kendra promotes Scientific Floriculture | | | Early Times Report REASI, Dec 29: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu is promoting and educating the farmers on scientific floriculture and many new farmers are coming forward for the adoption of scientific cultivation of floral crop. Marigold has been found as a viable crop in monkeys affected areas of Reasi distt. of J&K and can be a source of extra farm income and employment for the farmers. According to Sr. Scientist &Head of KVK, Dr. Banarsi Lal, floriculture has an immense potential in Reasi distt. of J&K as the distt. is considered as the hub of religious spots and there is great demand of flowers. He said that KVK, Reasi is guiding the farmers on the commercial cultivation of floral crops and encouraging them to develop entrepreneurship in floriculture. He said that some areas of Reasi distt. are heavily infested with monkey menace and commercial floriculture can be helpful to generate more income and employment among the farmers of these areas. He said that KVK provides the quality seed of marigold with the necessary technical guidelines with effective management of diseases and insect-pests management in floral crops. He added that KVK is emphasising on floriculture under protected conditions so as produce the quality flowers. He also said that KVK is guiding the farmers on the marketing strategies for floral crops. He narrated that the farmers can generate more income and employment by recycling the waste flowers as different kinds of floral products such as dhoop, agarbatis, organic lamps etc. can be made from them. |
