Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 23: The General Category Peoples' Front (GCPF) convened a meeting to discuss the growing concerns surrounding the reservation policy in Jammu and Kashmir. Yash Paul Sanson, President of the Front, emphasized that the organization's main goal is to address the issues faced by people from the general category, including Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and others. Sanson welcomed the Jammu and Kashmir Government's decision to review the existing reservation provisions, highlighting the growing dissatisfaction among youth from the general category who feel their rights to equality and justice are being undermined. The Front called for the cessation of divisive reservation policies and urged lawmakers to protect the future of talented youth who continue to be victimized by what they perceive as an irrational system. Chief Patron of GCPF, Jagdish Dogra, further demanded the introduction of domiciliary provisions in Jammu and Kashmir similar to those in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, particularly in matters related to land and property acquisition. He also stressed the need to end subsidies, freebies, and cash handouts, advocating for reduced rates on essential services like electricity and water. Dogra suggested that monetary assistance and special support measures (SSM) should replace reservation-based policies, aiming to alleviate socio-economic disparities without compromising merit. Additionally, the Front requested the release of a 3% Dearness Allowance installment to employees and pensioners effective July 1, 2024, and an increase in the medical allowance from Rs. 300 to Rs. 1,000 per month. They also highlighted the need to review the existing reservation policy to promote fairness, equality, and justice while exploring alternative solutions to address socio-economic disparities. |
