GDC Paloura celebrates UN Human Rights Day | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 11: Department of Political Science in collaboration with NSS unit of the college celebrated UN Human Rights Day. This Day is celebrated on 10th of December every year to commemorate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), which was adopted and proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1948 as the shared standard yardstick to protect human rights across the globe. The theme decided by the United Nations for this year's Human Rights Day focuses on "Our rights, our future, right now,". Prof.Amit Bhalla, Head, Department of Political Science delivered a detailed lecture highlighting the significance of celebrating this day. He enlightened the students and faculty members regarding the relationship between Part III of the Indian Constitution i.e. Fundamental Rights and Human Rights.Explaining the legal provision of Human Rights under UDHR (Universal Declaration of Human Rights) and Human Rights Act 1993, he stressed the constitutional provisions with decided case laws where Human Rights were being violated .He said that Human Rights allow humans to live with dignity as Human Rights are inalienable. From the beginning to the end of human life, Human Rights are of the utmost importance to live a good life. Dr. Kulvinder Kour, Principal of the college presided over the program. While speaking on the occasion, She emphasized on the concept and importance of rights all Human Beings are born with equal rights with any discrimination and stressed on the proper enforcement of these rights through appropriate enforcement agencies like NHRC, Supreme Court and High Courts.She congratulated the faculty members and students for energising the programme and understanding the conception of human rights. Three students of B.A. Semester first also expressed their views about Human rights contained in UN Charter. The programme was attended by large number of students and was a great learning experience for them. Faculty members who attended the programme were Prof. Pooja, Prof. Joginder Kumar, Dr. Shivani Sharma (NSS Programme Officer), Dr. Rabia Iqbal, Prof. Nasar, Prof. Neha Bhagat, Dr.Vandana and Dr. Sonam. Dr. Ikhlaq presented the formal vote of thanks. |
