Ban on consumption of beef in public places by Assam Government is appreciable : Shankaracharya | | | Agencies MATHURA, Dec 11: The ban on the consumption of beef in public places by Assam Government is a welcome sign, Jagatguru Shankaracharya Adhokshajanand Deo Tirth , on Tuesday said. " On behalf of Sanatan Dharmavalambis (followers of religion Sanatan) and Sadhu community, I appreciate the ban on the consumption of beef in hotels, restaurants, social and religious gatherings in Assam imposed recently by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma", Shankaracharya Adhokshajanand Deo Tirth said, while talking to reporters in Aadi Shankaracharya Ashram Govardhan. He said, it is a right step taken after decades. "After taking oath Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had already banned use of beef under a five kilometer radius around the temple or Mutt. He also had banned transportation of bovine to Bangladesh, even though they had been collected from other parts of the country or transported within Assam. New order will proof a milestone in preventing slaughtering of bovines ", the seer said. The seer has advised chief ministers of other states to make similar arrangements in their state for preventing slaughter of Bovines . "The step will not only be appreciated in Assam state but it will also get blessings of cow, that according to religious scriptures is considered as temple and abode of 33 crore God and Goddesses. Since ages the people of the country have been serving the cow as they considered that its blessing will be a shot in their arm", the seer added. The seer stated, by taking this step, the Assam chief Minister has proved that he is doing pioneering service to a country that needs such politicians . There will be no financial loss or extra burden on the farmers since cow opens the gate for financial gain . "While its milk and by products of milk have medicinal value, its urine is used in Ayurvedic treatment and cow dung produces methane, a gas that can be used as cooking fuel , through a process called anaerobic digestion", the seer stated. The decision will strengthen the existing Assam cattle preservation act 2021. The legislation bans sale or purchase of cattle within five kilometer radius of any Hindu temple or Vaishnavite satra (monastery) and in areas predominantly inhabited by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and other communities that traditionally do not eat beef. The law also bars the transportation of cattle within the state without a permit. |
