Northern Railway sets record in scrap sale, earns Rs 422.20 crores in FY 2024-25 | | | Agencies NEW DELHI, Dec 11: Northern Railway has achieved a significant milestone in scrap sales, earning Rs. 422.20 crores in the financial year 2024-25, making it the highest among all zonal railways and public sector units (PSUs) of Indian Railways. This figure surpasses the targeted Rs. 371 crores for the period ending December and marks a 21.17% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. Northern Railway is the first to cross the Rs. 400 crore mark in scrap sales, with earlier milestones of Rs. 100 crore in June 2024 and Rs. 200 crore in August 2024. Ashok Kumar Verma, General Manager of Northern Railway, highlighted that the disposal of scrap, such as rail pieces, sleepers, and abandoned structures, has not only generated significant revenue but also contributed to safety and cleanliness within railway premises. The disposal of outdated and unused infrastructure, such as staff quarters and sheds, has freed up valuable space, while reducing the potential safety hazards posed by accumulated scrap. The railway zone has adopted a "Mission Mode" approach to clear scrap and improve operational efficiency. With a target to achieve "Zero Scrap" status, Northern Railway is poised to set an all-time high in scrap sale records this financial year, enhancing both safety and space for future railway operations. |
