Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 12: Govt. Degree College (GDC) Nagrota has signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Regional and Urban Development Agency (RUDA) under the project titled Rural and Urban Landscape Free of Plastic and Dry Waste. The initiative, being implemented in Jammu in collaboration with the Jammu Municipal Corporation and Centre for Environment and Education, aligns with the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission - Urban (SBM-U) 2.0. The agreement focuses on reducing plastic waste generation and ensuring compliance with the Plastic Waste Management Rules issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC). This collaboration aims to enhance collection, segregation, recovery, and recycling of non-biodegradable waste while promoting integrated plastic waste management practices. With this MoU, GDC Nagrota is set to adopt sustainable waste management practices on its campus. The college plans to facilitate segregation, collection, and processing of dry waste while fostering the concept of a circular economy. Additionally, the initiative provides students with opportunities for hands-on training in waste management practices and participation in awareness programs. One of the notable steps under the agreement is the adoption of Jagti village by GDC Nagrota to make it litter-free through community engagement. Students will play a pivotal role in spreading awareness, waste collection, and promoting cleanliness both on campus and in the village. For their efforts, participating students will be certified as Green Champions by MoEF&CC. The MoU was signed by Prof. Anjali Mahajan, Principal of GDC Nagrota, and Mr. Sanjeev Arora, CEO of RUDA. Prof. Mahajan expressed her commitment to advancing waste management practices in the college and promoting sustainability on the campus.
