Srinagar, Apr 18: Rains lash the plains of Kashmir valley while some upper reaches experience a fresh snowfall disrupting normal activities on Thursday.
Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley were lashed by light to moderate rains and some upper reaches including Zojila Pass on the Srinagar-Ladakh highway experienced a fresh light snowfall on Thursday.
Reports of snowfall were also received from Tulail, Gurez Valley Razdan top, Sadhna Pass, and Sinthan Top bringing down the temperatures and disrupting normal life, said an independent forecaster, Kashmir Weather.
It was still raining in most parts of the plains and snowing on higher reaches over Jammu and Kashmir when this report was filed.
Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Thursday predicted widespread rain and light snow over higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
The MeT office said the weather will generally remain cloudy with light to moderate rain and light snow over higher reaches at most places coupled with thunder, and lighting from today evening to late night Friday.
The weather is very likely to remain generally dry from April 21 to April 25 with afternoon thundershower activity can't be ruled out as there is the possibility of light rain with thunder at many places during April 26 and 27.
The day and night temperatures improved in Kashmir valley and were recorded above normal during the past 24 hours.
The minimum temperature recorded at Srinagar during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday at 12.5 degrees Celsius against the 9.4 degrees Celsius. It was 4.6 degrees Celsius above normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season.
Pahalgam recorded a low of 7.2 degrees Celsius against the 2.1 degrees Celsius the previous night and it was 3.8 degrees Celsius above normal for the south Kashmir's tourist spot. It also received 0.4mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours, the MeT office said.
Kupwara had a low of 10.9 degrees Celsius against 6.2 degrees Celsius recorded a day ago and it was 4.1 degrees Celsius above normal for the frontier north Kashmir district.
Gulmarg settled at 3.2 degrees Celsius against the 1.6 degrees Celsius on the previous night and it was 0.9 degrees Celsius above normal for the ski resort of north Kashmir's Baramulla district. The ski resort also received 0.2mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours, the MeT office said.
