Govt offices set on fire, Police Stations attacked | Pro-Azadi groups enjoy field day in arson on Eid-ul-Fitr in Valley | | Ahmed Ali Fayyaz
EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, Sept 11: Apparently upbeat by the palpable response their 'Quit Jammu & Kashmir Movement' has evoked from Srinagar to New Delhi in the last three months of turbulence, Kashmiri separatist crowds today turned the religious congregation of Eid-ul-Fitr in a major anti-India political show. Much like in March 1990 and August 2008, Srinagar reverberated with pro-Azadi and anti-India slogans as masked and unmasked men carried green colour flags, zipped past the CRPF bunkers with 'Go India Go back' slogans and attacked a number of Police stations and torched government properties---including the offices of IGP Crime, Chief Engineer Maintenance & Rural Electrification, Managing Director of J&K State Power Development Corporation (PDC) and part of the Central Market at Exhibition Grounds.
Apprehending mob attacks, none of the beleaguered mainstream political leaders participated in Eid-ul-Fitr mass prayers at Hazratbal or any other major shrines or mosques today. Before leaving for New Delhi to join his family, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah att...

| | Ladakhis demand rehabilitation of victims instead of announcing elections to LAHDC Leh | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 11: Though the Government has issued the notification for the elections to Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (Leh) and announced the poll date but the decision has drawn a flak with representatives of various organisations terming it a mindless decision.
Challenging the Government decision these leaders said that yet the people have not recovered from the last month's cloudburst tragedy and over 1000 people who have been rendered shelterless are still in 300 tents at Leh. Instead of taking measures for their rehabilitation the Government has announced the poll scheduled for LAHDC, Leh just to give the political advantage to Congress Party which is t...
| | Rules, norms continue to remain 'shelved' with Cultural Academy affairs | Up gradation ordered to cover up 'lapses'…..? | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Sept 11: J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, which has always been in centre stage of controversies for one or the other reason has added more 'feather' in its cap loaded with irregularities and brazen violations of rules for the past so many years. The 'practices', astonishingly have not ended with present incumbent on the coveted post of Secretary. The 'legacy' of favoritism in appointments, promotions and all sorts of irregularities, which he inherited from his predecessors who enjoyed full political patronage in such acts, are being continued in many ways, if not in the same manner and as brazenly, bringing disrepute and discredit to the literary insti...

| | Separatists, stone-throwers provided with laptops, conducting anti-India operations from Kashmir jails? | | | RUSTAM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 11: A number of stone-throwers and their mentors are behind the bars for days now. According to one estimate, nearly 1,000 stone-throwers and their masters have been put behind the bars in various Kashmir jails. They were arrested and imprisoned on the ground that they had been creating a serious law and order problem in the Valley and indulging in subversive activities to achieve their nefarious designs. The objective obviously was to remove them from the scene and lodge in various cells so that they did not communicate with others and carry on their anti-state activities or conduct anti-India operations. Yet another objective was, it appears, not to...
| | Let separatists abandon misguided priorities to give peace a chance | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 11: On September 8,2010 the plan of the National Conference to commemorate the death anniversary of Sheikh Abdullah remained a low key affair despite chief Minister, Omar Abdullah's presence in one such meeting. On August 9,2010 the 56th anniversary of the arrest of the tallest Kashmiri leader, Sheikh Abdullah, and the dismissal of his Government, was not commemorated either by the ruling National Conference or by any other agency. It was for the first time that such historical events went unnoticed. The National Conference leadership and the party workers had not forgotten the day and date when Sheikh Abdullah was arrested on August 9,1953. But the National...
