BJP to convert Kashmiri separatists into nationalists | | | Early times Report JAMMU, Apr 21: Defending the BJP-led NDA government's position on Kashmir, BJP national general secretary and one of the architects of the PDP-BJP agenda of alliance and the party's point-man for J&K, Ram Madhav, has said that the "anti-national sentiment was nothing new in Kashmir" and asserted that the BJP will convert separatists into nationalists, who will hoist the national flag happily and willingly. "That the police have acted against anti-nationals in other parts of the country is proof that the government was not tolerating secessionism. We want the people of India to give the government more time to create an environment in the region (in this case Kashmir) that would make today's separatists turn into tomorrow's nationalists, who would hoist the National Flag with as much pride as the rest of the nation does," he has said. "Kashmir was not the only place where the national flag was not welcome. It was equally unwelcome in Bastar and Dantewada of Chhattisgarh and almost the whole of Manipur. The implication was that the people should not be impatient for positive results from Kashmir alone," he has also said. Ram Madhav, who has been let loose by the party high command to demoralize and destroy the nationalists in J&K, is becoming a laughing stock with each passing day. He is making statements which show that he knows nothing about Kashmir and the nature of politics Kashmiri leaders have been playing since decades. His assertion that the BJP would create a situation in Kashmir which would convert separatists into nationalists, who would wave the Indian flag, can't fool the nation. The reasons are not far to seek. One of the main reasons is that the BJP-led NDA Government's Kashmir policy has cleansed the National Institute of Technology Srinagar of all the non-local students and the Union Human Resource Development Minister SmritiIrani has, according to credible sources in the government, "refused to ask the NIT Srinagar administration to hoist national flag everyday on the campus, saying it is a state subject". Earlier, she had cancelled his scheduled visit to the NIT Srinagar for reasons best known to her. Her ministry last month issued instructions to all the Central Universities to hoist national flag everyday and the order was issued in the aftermath of the February 9 anti-India events in Jawaharlal Nehru University. How could a party and the government that didn't protect the nationalist non-local NIT students and became instrumental in their expulsion from Kashmir create an environment that induces the separatists to wave national flags in the Valley? The fact of the matter is that the BJP and the BJP-led NDA Government at the centre have virtually sent a signal across the country that those who would dare to chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai slogan or hoist the national flag in Kashmir will be thrashed, persecuted and brutalized in the manner the state police under the instruction of the New Delhi-controlled NIT administration dealt with the non-local students between April 3 and 12. No one will trust the BJP. |
