RSS earns Lok Ninda in 'Lok Manthan - 2016' in Bhopal | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 24: It was a three days programme from 12-14 Nov, 2016 at the premises of Vidhan Sabha at Bhopal. In its session on Jammu and Kashmir the theme was "foreign intervention in Kashmir and today". RSS leader Arun Kumar, who was presiding over the session, left the entire audience, including the participants in the seminar, outraged by his remarks. Instead of speaking on the topic of the seminar, Arun Kumar started urging all to change discourse on Kashmir and stop discussing the issue in terms of India-Pakistan and Congress-Nehru. "Let us stop the blame game. Let us start Kashmir History from 2014. Let us not become victims of Past," he said. As if questioning the previous speakers on the occasion, eminent Hindi Writer, Dr Kshema Koul, and retired Army Officer Lt Gen, Atta Hasnain who in their expositions had pinpointed deficiencies in the approach of Government of India while handling the affairs of Jammu and Kashmir, Arun Kumar brazenly said, "Let nobody give us suggestions on Jammu". RSS leader seemed to be distraught with the presentations of the previous speakers on the occasion. Eminent writer Dr Kshema Koul had earlier delivered the key note address in the seminar and elaborated the strategic importance of Jammu and Kashmir as the crown of India. She said: "In Kashmir foreign intervention started in the medieval times. In fact Mohammad Gaznavi was defeated twice in Kashmir. At that time people of India had migrated to Kashmir when Ghaznavi started attacking other parts of India after having met defeat in Kashmir. British sought to create Jammu and Kashmir as a buffer between their empire in India and Russia and China. After 1947, Pakistan continuously intervened in Jammu and Kashmir making use of Cold War. All terrorist groups in Jammu and Kashmir now are foreign trained and funded". She concluded her speech by pointing out that, "It is a myth that there is lull in Kashmir and situation is normalizing. Government of India is pleading day and night with the separatists. Day and night they are being approached. They are targeting Jammu in a big way. We cannot ignore the recent comments of the VC of Jammu describing the killing of Burhan Wani as a mistake. I plead you to save Jammu". These remarks perhaps irked the RSS leader. Notably RSS has been at the forefront of endorsing the PDP-BJP government based on Agenda of Alliance even though it has chosen to avoid the decision of Narendra Modi on demonitisation. Rtd Lt Gen Atta Hasnains remarks also seemed to have not gone well with Arun Kumar. The former core commander told during the seminar that nobody should be complacent about happenings in Jammu and Kashmir. He told the audience that it was true that "India had won many wars against Pakistan but it is also true that majority of population of Kashmir has become anti-India and Pro-Pakistan and that mind space in Kashmir has been lost to the enemy". He concluded his presentation by remarking that "it was his dream to see Kashmiri Pandits rehabilitated with dignity and in peace in Kashmir". After hearing the remarks of Arun Kumar, Dr Kshema Koul intervened and unambiguously told Arun Kumar that his entire presentation was insulting and full of arrogance. She pointed out how could history be ignored, how could past be suspended, how could we start the discourse of Jammu and Kashmir from 2014 and that it was a recipe for destruction. "I am not a politician. I have no axe to grind. Why should I not speak the truth? Why should I falsely blame anybody? It is a shame that while all other political parties ask intellectuals for suggestions, the RSS people are allergic to intellectual advice. Arrogance will drown you". Angry with the remarks of Arun Kumar ex director of Ghandhian Studies in Banaras Dr Kusum Lata Kedia got up and intervened and described Arun Kumar's speech as too bigoted. "How can we forget past? Today is the result of past. How can we forget the mistakes of politicians in Jammu and Kashmir? How can the past be discounted?" |
