Transferring over one lakh ‘hard-core’ votes major challenge for BJP in Poonch, Rajouri
5/4/2024 11:42:27 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, May 4: Even as the BJP has announced to support the candidate of the “like-minded” party on the prestigious Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat, the biggest challenge before the party leadership is to transfer its hardcore voters of the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri.
Although the party is expecting the support of the majority of Paharis on this seat, the BJP has over one lakh hard-core voters in two border districts of Poonch and Rajouri.
As the party leaders are not openly declaring support for any candidate, these hardcore BJP voters are confused because they have never voted for any other party in successive elections.
In successive Lok Sabha elections, the BJP managed to get respectable votes from the assembly constituencies of Poonch and Rajouri.
In the year 2019 Lok Sabha elections BJP candidate Jugal Kishore got 1,34,653 votes from the five constituencies of Poonch and Rajouri. Five constituencies including Kalakote which is now part of the Jammu-Reasi Lok Sabha seat.

The BJP has announced to support the candidate of the “like-minded” party on Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat.
As the BJP leaders are not openly declaring support for any candidate, these hardcore BJP voters are confused.
These voters have never voted for any other party in successive elections.
In 2019 Lok Sabha elections BJP candidate Jugal Kishore got 1,34,653 votes from 5 constituencies of Poonch and Rajouri.
019 Parliamentary elections, BJP got the lead from the Nowshera assembly segment with 59,413 votes. From the Darhal assembly segment BJP got 10360 votes, from the Rajouri segment BJP got 15,976 votes, and party candidate Jugal Kishore Sharma got 1914 votes from the Surankote assembly seat.
From Mendhar assembly segment BJP got 3157 votes and the party candidate got 14,638 votes from the Poonch-Haveli segment.
Apart from these hardcore voters, a huge chunk of Paharis would also vote for the Saffron Party after getting the Scheduled Tribe status.
As reported earlier, BJP leaders are aggressively campaigning in different pockets of the prestigious Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha but they are not seeking votes for any particular candidate in this Parliamentary constituency.
Interestingly, everyday BJP media cell issues press notes of the leaders campaigning in the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency but in these official handouts of the party, nothing has been mentioned about the candidate for whom the party is seeking votes.
