Abid Hussain Wani Early Times Report DODA, Apr 16: Crossing the river to reach the other side has become a routine affair for villagers of Marmat in Doda. In the absence of bridge, the students of Rachoo, Roat and Sewet villages risk their life to cross the river. Every day hundreds of students and other people living in this remote area are forced to cross gushing nallah to reach the other side on dangerously placed wooden plank. Pertinently, Dr Jitendra Singh, MP and MoS in the PMO, belongs to Marmat, and local people had pinned great hopes on him. But all the hopes have dashed as he has done nothing for the people of Doda. Talking to Early Times, many people said that without bridge "we are suffering badly especially school going children as they have to cross river on daily basis." "In rainy season, we are forced to cross the dangerous nallah with bags, ration and items of daily need on our heads as it becomes impossible for us to cross the nallah when water level rises. It is very risky for school children to cross the river without help by parents," said the locals. "In heavy rain, we have to skip the school due to risk of slipping as it turns into a death trap for us," said a student Irshad Ahmed. Locals appealed Deputy Commissioner Doda to direct concerned BDO for earlier sanctions of foot-bridge and undertake the construction work immediately to avoid any mishap. |
