Jammu, Aug 21: On 6th day of Parthenium Awareness Week, AICRP-Weed Management, Division of Agronomy, SKUAST- Jammu organized a "Parthenium Awareness Camp at village Khandwal, block Satwari. About 50 farmers and members of Gram Panchayat Khandwal participated in this programme. Dr R.R. Jat, Associate Director Extension, SKUAST Jammu apprised the farmers about the harmful effects of Parthenium weed on crops, human and animal health. Dr B. R. Bakaya, senior Scientist, discussed about various methods for the control of this weed. He advised to farmers to form committees at village and block levels and to started vigorous campaign to eradicate parthenium, which causes many skin diseases and allergies in both humans and animals. Dr R. Puniya, junior scientist demonstrated the chemical and physical methods of Parthenium control. The participants and scientists of SKUAST Jammu also take part in uprooting of parthenium weed around the village panchayat. The campaign is ended with vote of thanks by Dr. R. Puniya junior scientist, SKUAST Jammu. |
