10000 SPOs from Kashmir, none from Jammu, Ladakh
Delhi's policy of appeasement
9/24/2016 11:37:05 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 24: Delhi has once again perpetrated injustice on the already ignored and discriminated against people of Jammu and Ladakh. And it is not the Congress or UPA-controlled New Delhi that perpetrated it; it is the BJP-controlled south and North Block, which decide the fate of the people and the country, that perpetrated it and in a most brazen manner. In fact, the BJP-controlled New Delhi humiliated and taunted the unemployed youth of Jammu and Ladakh.
The case in point is the recent decision of the Union Government to recruit 10,000 more SPOs and all from Kashmir. That all would be recruited from Kashmir and none from Jammu and Ladakh speaks for itself.
It is not a simple act of discrimination with the people of Jammu and Ladakh; it is betrayal of the trust the people of Ladakh and Jammu reposed in the BJP both in the Lok Sabha election and in the assembly election. BJP had won all the three Lok Sabha seats from Jammu province and Ladakh region and also won 25 assembly seats all from Jammu. The BJP registered a historic victory as it had given the people of these two regions to understand that a vote for the BJP would mean an end to the discriminatory policies and the empowerment of the two regions to the extent that they will enjoy equal status with Kashmir at all levels and in all spheres. That was the reason the people of Jammu and Ladakh swung solidly behind the BJP.
That the BJP got more votes from Jammu and Ladakh as compared to other parts of the country could be seen from the fact that while the national average was 31.5 per cent, in Jammu and Kashmir State, the BJP got 32.5 per cent votes - one per cent more than the national average.
The BJP would have won the trust of the alienated people of Jammu and Ladakh, had it distributed all the 10000 positions of SPOs among all the three regions taking into account the proportion of the population each region houses. Such a distribution would have sent a right signal but it chose otherwise. It proved that it was more discriminatory that the Congress was. This policy of appeasement proved counterproductive in the past and its results would be no different this time as well. In fact, it would anger Jammu and Ladakh to the extent that they would reject the BJP outright as and when they got the first opportunity.
