Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 25: Usually government departments blame manpower shortage for slow pace of work but Public Works Department (PWD) has so far failed to utilize the services of newly appointed Junior Engineers (JEs), who have been waiting for their postings for the last four months.
The newly appointed Junior Engineers informed Early Times that around 133 of them were appointed in Public Works, Roads and Building department (PWD) out of which more than 90 had joined and were asked to report Chief Engineer office Jammu for daily attendance. "We have been marking our attendance for the last four months but so far none of JE has been adjusted in any of the division or line department of PWD", one of JE said.
He further said that they have been wasting their time in Chief Engineer office Jammu and. "We are not getting any salary or division for working and sitting idle in office has become very distressing for most of the newly appointed JEs", he said, adding that even there was no word from administration or officials in department as whenever they would be adjusted in various divisions.
Chief Engineer PWD Jammu Alok Mengi informed that as per the government order, the newly appointed JEs were ordered to report to his office for attendance and the allotment of divisions and department was the responsibility of administrative department.
He further said that these JEs could be adjusted in PMGSY, PWD, Roads and Building, JKPCC, Tourism, JMC and many other divisions. "Probably due to turmoil in valley the adjustment has been delayed but it would be done shortly.
An official in civil secretariat, pleading anonymity, informed Early Times that divisions have already been allotted to all the newly appointed JEs and the file was forwarded to the Minister for final approval last week.
"The Minister was little busy in the last week and very shortly, all will be adjusted in various divisions", he said.
